Create your own Adinkra prints to take home and learn the history, symbolism and artistry of Adinkra symbols and Kente cloths. Drop-in event.
An “adinkra” is a visual symbol. This traditional African textile dates back to the 1800s. Adinkra symbols were once printed on fabric in a grid pattern using a carved gourd. Depending on how different symbols are combined, the message of the cloth conveys different meanings. Each adinkra cloth tells a unique story. Adinkra symbols can be found in present day Ghana on clothing, fabric, furniture, jewelry, art, decorations, common day-to-day objects, and even in architecture.
