Ancient Greek and Roman athletics have inspired centuries of sports and competition, most conspicuously the movdern Olympics revival. The original ancient Greek Olympics served as an incubator for religious celebration, nationalistic identity, political intrigue, and special interests. Drawing from primary literary sources, archaeological evidence, and the arts, the Art Insitute of Chicago's Lucas Livingston explores the history, development, and contexts of the ancient Olympics and the Greco-Roman athletics.
