Daniele Macuglia, from the University of Chicago and Art Institute of Chicago, focuses on Leonardo?s technical ability to render the human body and capture the psychological side of those he depicted.
Commemorating the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death in 1519, the library is hosting this program to provide a glimpse of his accomplishments and lasting legacy.
This program will focus on the female portraits by Leonardo da Vinci, focusing in particular on Ginevra de’ Benci, the Lady with an Ermine and the Mona Lisa. We will comment on Leonardo’s technical ability to render the human body, but also the way he was able to render the psychological side of the women he depicted.
Daniele Macuglia is a physicist and historian of science. He works at the University of Chicago and at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he teaches classes on Science and Society in the Italian Renaissance.
